5 Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer

I have been working out with the wonderful Karra Crawford for a week now. This is the first time I’ve ever hired a personal trainer. I have to say, I never understood why people would want to hire a personal trainer until now! I’m starting to see the real benefits of working with one. I know that in 5 months, I will be in the best shape of my life.

If you are thinking about a personal trainer but figure you can work out on your own, think again. Here are 5 reasons why you should hire a personal trainer today!

Accountability

Karra uses MyFitnessPal to track what I’m eating, drinking and what exercise I’m doing when I’m not working out with her. I’m very honest in my diary, and she is honest back with me.

You can see from my diary that I still drink lots of beer. Karra had a talk with me today. Beer is a toxin (yes!), but when my body is fighting off that toxin, it is not shedding fat. Also, my work outs are going to be only as good as the food I ate the day before. (I must say, I’m regretting having those 3 beers yesterday after today’s workout!)

Suddenly, I know somebody is watching. When I feel like going for a run, I do, because I know it will look good to my trainer. When I say I will not drink beer Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays before my workouts, I won’t. And if I do, I know Karra will kick my butt for it.

The accountability is amazing. It is amazing how quickly I switched to being the healthy way I know how to be once I started working with Karra.

Pushes You Beyond Your Limits

I have never worked out as hard as I have with Karra. When I think I can’t do another pull up, she cheers me on. I’m doing things I never thought were possible, and I’m exhausted after my work out. In a good way. I can tell I’m getting stronger. Karra knows what I need to work out, and where my limit is.

I would never, ever work out as hard as I do with her. Even when I’m running on my own, I simply don’t push myself the way she pushes me.

You’ve Thrown Your Hat Over the Wall

I’ve paid for 60 sessions up front. No refunds. I’m going to make sure I get my money’s worth and listen to Karra’s advice. I’m in it for the 5 months whether I like it or not.

When I don’t feel like going, I go. It has already been paid for, and you lose it if you don’t use it. If I’m sick, I know I’m really sick because that is a workout I’m not going to get back.

Something happens when you invest in yourself. It was a chunk of change, and I’m hoping know it will change my lifestyle for the long hall so I won’t need to do something this extreme again.

Teaches You to Eat Right

I know, I know, eat fruits and vegetables, high protein foods, avoid certain fats, and definitely avoid sugars and carbs.

Did you know that some carbs are good? Did you know it is good to mix protein with carbs so you don’t get a sugar crash later in the day? Did you know that a protein shake is the best way to get your protein after a workout?

Maybe you know that stuff, but I didn’t. Karra is looking at my diary and letting me know what I need to do in order to improve my diet. My diet is already pretty good (minus that darn beer!), and now it is getting better with Karra’s tips.

Teaches You Correct Form

When I’m working out, Karra is actually there making sure my shoulders are back, my hips are in the right place, my knees aren’t over my ankles, and that I have the correct form so I don’t hurt myself.

Sure, you can look at an app and you can look in the mirror. But do you have the expert eye that is needed? I probably couldn’t tell a workout buddy if they have the correct form, let alone judging my own form.

Karra is there to make sure that I’m doing the exercises correctly, exercising the muscles I need to exercise, and most importantly, not putting myself at risk for injury.

After knowing all of this, I probably would have hired Karra sooner rather than later. Better late than never though.

If you are thinking about getting a personal trainer, do it. If you live in the Phoenix area, or Ahwatukee in general, talk to Karra. You won’t regret it (but you may want to kill her a tiny bit when she is pushing you past what you knew was possible for yourself!)
