Finding My Health

I have been MIA for a couple of weeks now on this blog.  For the last 2 1/2 years I have been fighting for my health. Unfortunately, the last few month has not been a good one for me. However, thanks to my family and friends,  my nurse practitioner, and the ability to not give up, today I am one step closer to finding a treatment for my symptoms.

I recently received a diagnosis of HAE or hereditary angioedema. This is a rare disorder that usually goes undiagnosed for a long time. Medicine is expensive and it is not something that you can get quickly. My symptoms are abdominal swelling and pain. I’ve been in pain, waiting for my pain medications to be approved. Hopefully that will happen in the next few days.

Unfortunately the medication doesn’t mean immediately relief. It might. But it may not. In the mean time, as I figure this out, I need to figure out how to continue to live the life I love.

What does it mean for Hilary’s Home? I will continue to try to write. There may be periods of me not around for a few weeks (or months), however my goal is to minimize those.

There also may be a lot of information about HAE and my journey. Hopefully it will give other’s hope to continue to look at their health. If you don’t feel good, and you know it isn’t normal, then keep fighting to find the answers. Doctors are practicing medicine. They don’t have all the answers. Become your own advocate.

As I find my own health again, please bare with me. I hope to be back at it full strength soon, along with this blog!
