Homemade Lemonade

We have a beautiful lemon tree in our yard that is finally growing some lemons. I discovered it a little late and picked up about 20 lemons from the ground that I had to toss. The good news is I managed to save 20 more lemons from the tree!

Rebecca loves lemonade, and she usually gets store bought lemonade. I am not a fan, as I know any juice has tons of sugar and is not good for you. However, I know that she will drink it anyway, and I’d rather her drink homemade lemonade than the store bought stuff with all the preservatives.

Luckily this recipe is very easy to make.

  • Prep: 15 min
  • Cook: 4 min
  • Yields: 1 gallon

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 10 to 15 lemons, depending on size)
  • 16 cups (1 gallon) water
  • ice (as needed)

Directions

  • Squeeze all of your lemons until you have 4 cups of lemon juice. I use my juicer, which makes it much easier and faster. You can buy it on Amazon for only $30. Well worth it! Once juiced, add to a 1 gallon jug.
  • Microwave 2 cups of water (or 4 cups if you have a bigger bowl to fit it in) for 2 minutes. Once the water is boiled, add half the sugar and mix it until dissolved. If it is not dissolved, put it in the microwave for a little bit longer.
  • Once the sugar is dissolved in the water, cool the water with ice. Once cooled, add it to the 1 gallon jug. Repeat twice.
  • Fill up the jug with cold water until it reaches the top. Add ice to cool if needed.
  • Your lemonade is ready to serve! Keep cold until consumed.

While it is a tad messy, within 15 minutes you will have fresh, homemade lemonade that your kids will be asking for more and more! Even though it has tons of sugar, at least it doesn't have all the preservatives the store bought stuff has!
